Important Senior Information

Attention Spring 2017 BA/BS Degree Candidates:

Always monitor your UMW email and please read what we send you. 

Also, if your name or hometown listing has changed since the time you submitted your Degree Application, be sure to share that new information with Ms. Evelyn Torres in the Office of the Registrar as soon as possible.  Submitting a Change of Name/Address Form does not change your diploma name or hometown.

A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THE END OF THE SEMESTER AND “DEAD WEEK”

May completers who are not planning on attending the commencement ceremony should notify Rita Dunston in writing to request graduation in absentia. As you are planning your “Dead Week” activities, please remember to check your UMW email account if you have any reason to think that your graduation is in jeopardy. If you are not graduating, you should expect notification by Tuesday of “Dead Week”. We will try to have a list posted on the web by Wednesday afternoon of the UMW Class of 2017.

SEPTEMBER 2016

All BA/BS students who submitted a Degree Application for Spring 2017 should meet with their major advisor(s) to review the senior checksheet and returned the sign verification form to the Office of the Registrar by September 26, 2016. Even if you plan on delaying your graduation to a time later than Spring 2017, you must complete the senior checksheet, or a registration hold will be placed on your account. If your advisor receives a checksheet for a major that you do not plan on completing, please submit a Major/Minor Declaration Form to the Registrar’s Office to officially drop the major.

JANUARY 2017

All students who expect to graduate in May should be monitoring their Degree Evaluation and Academic Transcript as they make changes to their Spring 2017 schedules. It is very important that you notify the Degree Auditor of any changes to your spring registration, i.e. you are adding an individual study or internship, plan on transferring in credits from another institution, you are repeating a course, you are taking a course pass/fail, etc.  Failing to notify the  Degree Auditor of any changes, could delay your graduation.

MARCH 2017

All degree candidates for May 2017 should be double-checking the Degree Evaluation on Banner by Generating a New Evaluation. Degree Evaluations include in-progress courses and assume successful completion; if any part of your evaluation says ‘N-Not Met” you should see the Degree Auditor in the Registrar’s Office, Lee 206, immediately. If you know that you will not graduate in May or your plans have changed, you should also notify this office to be removed from the list and added to Summer or Fall lists. Remember that only courses taken for ‘elective credit’ can be taken as pass/fail; all major, general education, WI and SI courses must be taken for graded (A-F) credit. Be reminded that you can review your degree progress anytime by logging into Banner, selecting Degree Evaluation and then “Generate a New Evaluation”. The Degree Evaluation is an important tool when used in conjunction with your Academic Transcript and advisor consultation.

You will find additional information concerning your degree requirements when you click on the link Degree  Completion Requirements on the Registrar’s page .  A reminder list (Seniors who matriculated before Fall 2008, Seniors who matriculated Fall 2008 or later) is available for you.  You’ll want to be sure you know all the requirements, since ultimately the satisfactory completion of all requirements for your degree lies with you.
