FAQ Degree Works
What is Degree Works?
Degree Works is a web-based online advising tool to help you and your advisor monitor your progress toward degree completion. Degree Works matches your coursework (completed, currently enrolled, or registered for in the future) to your degree requirements in an easy-to-read worksheet that shows how the courses count toward degree requirements.
What is an Audit?
Degree Works audit is a review of past, current and “planned” coursework that provides information on completed and outstanding requirements necessary to complete a degree/major/minor/concentration.
Who Can Use Degree Works?
Degree Works is available to all degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students who have declared a major as of Fall 2017. Undeclared students may use Degree Works to generate what-if audits. All other students will continue to use your current degree evaluation tool located in Banner Self Service.
My major is wrong, what should I do?
Complete the Major/Minor Declaration Form, have it signed by the department and return it to the Office of the Registrar
When should I review my degree audit?
Before you meet with your academic advisor to discuss registration for an upcoming term.
Before registration, use it to plan your program for the term.
After you register to ensure that the courses you selected applied to your requirements like you thought they would.
After your grades for each term are posted.
Before you file for graduation, review your academic record.
Any time you make a change to your schedule.
Can I register for classes in Degree Works?
No, you may register online only through the student portal.
What does the @ symbol mean?
If the @ sign appears with course numbers after it (i.e., @ 300-400), this means that you can take any 300-400 level course from the specific discipline. If it appears after a subject prefix (i.e., ENGL @), it means that you can take any English course.
Classes are not applying in the right place
Degree Works uses a ‘best fit’ approach to meet requirements, so classes may apply to different sections as you take more courses. If you have further questions, please contact the Registrar’s Office.
Who should I contact if I have additional questions?
Please contact the Office of the Registrar located in Lee Hall, 2nd Floor, Student Services Suite or email helpdesk@umw.edu .
