Student ODR Testing Center Operational Policy
- It is the responsibility of the student to meet with instructors to discuss the need for accommodated testing and provide their letter (each semester) from ODR, listing approved testing accommodations.
- Students with ODR-registered testing accommodations may utilize the ODR Testing Center. This is not a requirement. The student must agree to all ODR TestingCenter policies to utilize the ODR Testing Center. Should a student and instructor work out alternative testing arrangements, they are free to do so. ODR does not need to be informed about any arrangements made outside of the ODR Testing Center. The center can be used for any in-class test, quiz, or exam. It is not to be used for writing papers or general homework. For the purpose of this policy, all assessments will be denoted as “tests.”
- Tests and testing appointments will be funneled through and coordinated by the ODR Accommodate case management system. Students will use their UMW SSO to access this portal.
- Acceptance of the ODR Testing Center Policy will be acknowledged in Accommodate when tests are scheduled.
- To utilize the ODR Testing Center, students must submit a testing request through their Accommodate Portal at least 6 days in advance of the scheduled test. Walk-ins and day-of requests cannot be honored.
- Students should contact ODR and their instructor if they are unable to keep their appointment due to an emergency or illness. In order to reschedule, students should work out a new testing time with their instructor and schedule a new appointment through Accommodate.
- Scheduling for accommodated pop quizzes should be addressed with the faculty member at the beginning of the semester.
- Students are responsible for communicating with their instructor about testing within the ODR Testing Center and making sure materials are sent to ODR prior to their appointment. Certain services, such as scribes, exam conversions, assistive technology, etc. may require additional advanced notice for ODR to coordinate.
- ODR Testing Center Hours are 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday. All tests scheduled should be completed no later than 4:30pm. Inquiries about the Testing Center can be made to ODR at odrtesting@umw.edu or by calling our office at (540) 654-1266.
- Students must show UMW photo ID to check into the ODR Testing Center. Once checked in, student will be offered a locker, if available, to store personal items and items prohibited from testing rooms. Staff will select a testing room based on availability and accommodation. Self-selection of room is not permitted.
- Only testing materials indicated by the instructor or your approved accommodations will be permitted in the testing room to use during the test. Other academic or personal items should be stored in ODR lockers or elsewhere.
- ODR does not supply testing materials. Students are responsible for supplying their own personal testing materials, such as blue books, calculators, etc. ODR does not keep inventory available for purchase. Student will be permitted to leave the Testing Center prior to the beginning of the test to acquire testing materials, but this will not extend the student’s overall appointment length. Student will have any remaining time of their appointment to complete the test.
- Tests will be administered at the scheduled appointment day and time in Accommodate. Students arriving late will be permitted only the remainder of their appointment time to complete their test.
- Students should plan on arriving 10 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment/start of test to allow for check-in, set up of any authorized personal technology, and to avoid losing testing time.
- The following items are not permitted in testing rooms unless specifically approved for the test, by accommodation, or by ODR staff:
- Cell phones
- Apple watches, smartwatches or Fitbits
- Calculators
- Headphones of any kind or earbuds (Noise cancelling headphones are available from ODR for students with accommodations)
- Electronics
- Beverages, except water in a clear container
- Food/snacks (Food may be consumed in the ODR lobby area if necessary)
- Any item not approved by ODR staff
Students will need to leave these items in provided lockers or in an alternative location of their choosing. ODR staff is not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of those items. Students may be asked if their cell phones have been stored prior to testing.
- Students leaving the room for an approved accommodation or restroom usage will not be afforded extra time on their test. The testing period will still be active during any break. Students will not be allowed access to stored locker items without an accommodation or permission from ODR staff. Cell phones may not be used during breaks without a specific accommodation.
- If an appointment at the ODR Testing Center is no longer needed, the student should cancel the appointment in Accommodate.
- ODR staff is unable to answer any test-related questions. Questions may be brought to ODR staff, and ODR can email the instructor on student’s behalf during the testing time but cannot guarantee a response. Students are encouraged to write any such questions down, and ODR will return them to the instructor with the test and any testing materials. Students are encouraged to work out a process for handling questions with their instructors prior to the testing appointment.
- Personal technology, such as laptops, used for testing is the student’s own responsibility. Students should endeavor to make sure the item is in working order and ready for use. We recommend that students arrive to the testing center early to aid in this process and avoid missing their scheduled testing time. ODR staff is not equipped to troubleshoot technical problems on non-ODR technology items.
- Tests, additional testing materials, and any student notes/scratch paper will be collected and returned to instructor at the end of testing appointment. Please provide these items to ODR staff at the end of your test.
- Testing rooms are not considered private or personal space, and ODR staff may enter them at any time. Other students may enter and exit the group testing room while your test is being administered. All testing rooms will be monitored by ODR staff during testing.
- Warning window for the approaching end of tests will not be given. A clock will be available for students to use, and it is the students’ responsibility to manage testing time.
- Talking is not permitted within the testing rooms; however, ODR staff may need to give verbal instructions to students.
- Students must promptly end working on a test at the end of their appointment. Please do so quietly, particularly in the group rooms.
- Use of resources, materials, or other unauthorized items is strictly prohibited and may be considered an Honor Code violation.
