Join an ASB Trip
Interested in going on an Alternative Service Break trip? Join one of our teams that travel during spring and summer breaks and earn up to 30 service hours. Currently enrolled undergraduates are welcome to apply to participate in Alternative Breaks.
Participant responsibilities include:
- Before the trip: Unless your class schedule conflicts, you need to attend all pre-trip meetings with your ASB group and complete any assignments or tasks assigned by your site leaders. If teams are completing individual fundraising activities, participants are responsible for attending and participating in those events.
- During the trip: Participants are expected to abide by all UMW ASB policies, including our commitment to abstaining from alcohol and drug use during trips. Participants are also expected to take part in active service to the best of their ability. Additionally, along with their team, participants will engage in reflection.
- After the trip: Participants who have received a scholarship award from UMW ASB will be responsible for completing a blog post about their trip.
Student Reflection from the 2024 ASB trip to Deerfield Beach, Florida: “I feel as though I have grown as a result of the trip. I feel more social, more confident, and more content with my life. I feel like I did a good thing and met many good people. It has helped to reverse some of the damage to my perception of people caused by spending too much time online. I feel like I can express myself better around people I am not familiar with, and I have learned that taking photos can be a good way to remember something fun and important.”
