Interested in going on an Alternative Service Break trip? Join one of our teams that travel during spring and summer breaks and earn up to 30 service hours. Currently enrolled undergraduates are welcome to apply to participate in Alternative Breaks.
Application Process
The trip locations remain a secret to everyone but the Leadership Team until we reveal them in late in the Fall semester at a Reveal Event. Attendees receive advance information about the trip and exclusive early access to the application process. The location reveal and opening of the application to the general public will begin the next day. Spots on the trip are first come first serve.
You will hear from ASB within 48 hours of applying about your status on the trip. From there, students must pay the $50.00 deposit to reserve their spot on the trip. Students will receive confirmation of their reserved spot soon after paying the deposit.
Once the roster is complete Trip Leaders will set up a group chat for further communication.

Participant responsibilities include:
- Before the trip: Unless your class schedule conflicts, you need to attend all pre-trip meetings with your ASB group and complete any assignments or tasks assigned by your trip leaders. If teams are completing individual fundraising activities, participants are responsible for attending and participating in those events.
- During the trip: Participants are expected to abide by all UMW ASB policies, including our commitment to abstaining from alcohol and drug use during trips. Participants are also expected to take part in active service to the best of their ability. Additionally, along with their team, participants will engage in reflection.
- After the trip: Continue to reflect upon the trip and support our cause.
