Professional Development
Being an Honors scholar in college is a great accolade, but we understand it’s also a step toward a rich future. The Honors Program partners with other offices at UMW to offer a slate of programs and opportunities aimed at helping scholars
a) meaningfully explore their professional goals, and
b) develop or professionalize their skills, materials, and contacts for life beyond college, in their careers and as citizens.
Students can connect with the Center for Career and Professional Development to identify internship opportunities and support or discuss ways to investigate career paths appropriate to their skills and interests. And in Handshake, designation as a member of the Honors Program will be visible and searchable for employers when scholars establish a published profile.
The Honors Program will also offer an annual slate of programs designed to enhance and develop professional development. Some examples include workshops to polish resumes or to maximize presence in Handshake, understanding inclusion through Safe Zone training or an accessibility workshop with the Office of Disability Resources, or how-to programs on best practices for cover letters, personal statements, or project proposals.
