Admissions and Orientation
The Honors Program has two primary points of entry.
- Most scholars enter the Honors Program at the same time that they matriculate to UMW, having indicated interest on the Common Application (Track A).
- Others apply for admission after a successful first semester at UMW, or in some cases transfer from honors programs or colleges at other schools (Track B).
Guidelines for new students to UMW (first-year and transfer) and guidelines for current UMW students hoping to enter the Honors Program in their first year are available on this site.
Incoming Track A Honors Scholars and Track B scholars in their first Fall semester in the program will join us for the pre-semester Honors Orientation called City as Text™, which gives students three days to familiarize themselves with the campus and local area, meet program staff and leaders of the UMW and Fredericksburg communities, and connect with their peer cohort in the Honors Program.
*City as Text is an honors pedagogy trademarked by the National Collegiate Honors Council.
