Get a jumpstart on your summer writing by joining the Book Authors Group for a day-long writing retreat. Whether seeking the busy hum of fellow scholars to keep you motivated or the quiet solitude of a small study room, space is reserved across Seacobeck Hall to help you focus on your last writing project. All projects are welcome—this retreat is not just about books! Snacks and beverages will be available in the Dome Room the entire day; lunch is on your own or with retreat participants. Retreaters can come and go as their schedules require. If you plan to attend, email Victoria (vrussel3@umw.edu) so we can ensure that the snacks are plentiful!

Mentoring Undergraduate Research: Defining High Quality Undergraduate Research
What is undergraduate research, and how do we define high-quality undergraduate research? We’ll take a look at some definitions and guidelines from the Council for Undergraduate Research, watch a brief video from the Center for Engaged Research at Elon University, and hear from some of our UMW colleagues in different disciplines. We’ll also take a look at the different ways UMW students gain experience in research and creativity, and talk about how faculty might incorporate one or more in their teaching, research, and advising.
Discussion leaders: Liane Houghtalin (CPR), Dianne Baker (BIO), Julia DeLancey (ART)
