January 23: UMW Summer Research Institutes faculty proposal deadline. Both summer institutes will begin on May 18, 2026. The Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Summer Institute will conclude with a symposium on June 17. The Summer Science Institute concludes with its symposium on July 22. Faculty interested in participating in AHSSSI should submit a proposal directly to Betsy Lewis. Faculty interested in SSI should talk to their department chair.

The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in all fields of study by sponsoring an annual conference for students. Unlike meetings of academic professional organizations, this gathering of student scholars welcomes presenters from all institutions of higher learning and from all disciplines. Overall, this conference offers a unique environment for the celebration and promotion of undergraduate student achievement; provides models of exemplary research, scholarship, and creative activity; and offers student career readiness development.

November 24: Deadline to submit to present at NURVa Posters in Richmond event. Please send the following to Elizabeth Lewis elewis@umw.edu by November 24, 2026: student and faculty sponsor names, institutional affiliation, department/field of study, clear title, abstract (of no more than 250 words) and an impact statement. Abstracts should be written for a general audience and be complete, concise, clear, and cohesive. The Impact Statement is a 150-200 word statement describing the project and its broader impact to a legislator to include the significance of the work and the progress made
toward completion (to-date).

October 8: Application deadline for the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference for Undergraduate Scholarship (MARCUS) is Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Randolph College. September 15: Deadline for student presentation proposals: 6th Annual Network for Undergraduate Research in Virginia (NURVa) Symposium, November 1, 2025. University of Mary Washington.
The NURVa conference is an opportunity for undergraduates in all disciplines to present their research and creative work at a statewide conference. The 6th annual conference will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, on the campus of the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg. Faculty mentors are encouraged to attend. Conference registration, which includes continental breakfast and lunch, is $25. A variety of graduate schools will also be present at the Graduate School Fair. All costs for registration, transportation, and accommodation (if needed) are the responsibility of the student submitter.
NURVa invites submissions from undergraduates in all disciplines in the categories of oral presentation, poster, or performance. Submit abstracts (750 words maximum) with one letter of support from a faculty mentor at https://tinyurl.com/NURVa2025
