The UMW Research and Creativity Collaborative space is in Simpson Library, beyond the Circulation Desk in the back of the main floor. It is open for individual or group use during library hours. This is also a space for workshops and presentations, as well as consultations related to undergraduate research and creativity.
Dr. Elizabeth Franklin Lewis, Director of Undergraduate Research

Dr. Elizabeth (Betsy) Lewis is Professor of Spanish and Director of Undergraduate Research at the University of Mary Washington. She oversees the programming of the Research and Creativity Collaborative, the awarding of undergraduate research grants, and the organization and support of various on-campus symposia, including our annual Research and Creativity Day Symposium. Dr. Lewis, whose research specialty is Spanish literature, in particular gender in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, has been involved with undergraduate research throughout her almost thirty-year career at Mary Washington, directing URES 197 projects, individual studies, and honors theses in Spanish. She has taken groups of students on research trips to Spain to work in the archives and the National Library in Madrid. Her current UR project, Genderama, is a TEI (Text Encoding Initiative) digital collection of nineteenth-century female-authored plays from Spain.
