This program is to encourage faculty and staff from across the university to collaborate on themes or topics of relevance to humanistic inquiry. These projects can include a set of readings, an activity, or just an idea that could lead to future research (panels, grant teams, research labs, webinars, mentoring, community engagement work, etc.).
Who Can Apply:
- 4-5 faculty and staff from a mix of disciplines who will meet five times during the academic year.
Goals:
- Encourage collaborative thinking about humanistic themes and problems
- Create a space for creative exploration of shared interests
- Facilitate the development of collaborative scholarship and/or other deliverables across disciplinary boundaries
Application Package:
- One-page proposal containing the following:
- Description of main topics and themes
- Significance of the project to the humanities
- One-page proposed meeting schedule with discussion items for the five meetings
- Short participant bios and their connection to the project
- The application package must be submitted as a single PDF file.
Outcomes:
The group will submit a one-page description of the conversations and the ideas that emerged from the five meetings at the end of the academic year, with the possibility of establishing a humanities lab. Additionally, they will agree to be part of the Humanities Center’s research presentations/workshops in the following academic year and have at least one member of the cohort present this work at a conference or other appropriate public venue. Expenses will be covered by the Dean’s office. Funds permitting, teams can reapply every two years in similar or different group configurations. All projects will be profiled on the humanities center website.
Compensation:
- $500 per person
