Digital Intensive Program

The Digital Intensive requirement is a new across-the-curriculum requirement included in the “Connections” category of the 2020 General Education Curriculum. This website is intended for anyone interested in learning more about the new requirement, and for faculty, these pages include guidelines and procedures for designating a class as DI.

Background

The need for a Digital Intensive requirement came about as a result of the report by the Digital Fluency Working group in 2018. As part of the new curriculum, DI courses will help prepare students to live, work, and serve effectively in the world that is emerging in response to technology.

Student Learning Outcomes

All courses designated as Digitally Intensive should include assignments or other structured activities so that students will meet the following learning outcomes.

  • Students will successfully locate and critically evaluate information using the Internet, library databases, and/or other digital tools.
  • Students will use digital tools to safely, ethically, and effectively produce and exchange information and ideas.
  • Students will creatively adapt to emerging and evolving technology.

DI Committee

The Digital Intensive program is overseen by an advisory committee appointed by the UFC. This committee’s main responsibility is to report directly to UFC with recommendations for courses approved for DI designation.
