Speaking and Writing Center Consultant
Position Description: Speaking and Writing Center Consultants assist individuals or small groups on speaking and writing projects for any class to provide assistance at any stage in the process; conduct in-class workshops on topics associated with speaking and writing skills; create and update materials, such as handouts and presentation materials, for distribution; assist with the marketing of the SWC through social media and attendance at campus events like Admissions Open Housesand Orientations; and assist, as needed, with special projects for the SWC. All consultants are expected to be able to assist with both oral and written projects.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must have successfully completed FSEM or be exempted from the course. Students applying for the position should have strong communication skills, be creative thinkers, and demonstrate a positive attitude and a desire to assist their peers.
Recommended Qualifications: 3.0 GPA
Hiring Process: Hiring for consultants takes place in the spring for those beginning work the following fall. Applications generally open a week and a half before Spring Break.
After a review of applications, candidates will be invited to interview. We will then invite qualified candidates to complete a two week training which will prepare them to consult on both speaking and writing projects. Training is conducted the two weeks before classes start in the fall; it is expected that you will be available for the full 2 weeks. All students who live on campus will be allowed to move in early. Trainees receive a stiped as well as all meals during the training period. After successfully completing training, consultants will be hired at an hourly wage for the school year.

Student Aide
Position Description: Student aides assist with desk duties for all peer services located in HCC 429 which includes the Speaking and Writing Center, Peer Academic Consultanting, and Peer Tutoring. Aides greet clients as the come into HCC 429 and direct them to the appropriate consultant, assist walk-ins with finding an available appointment time, answer front desk phone, and work on special projects as assigned by the Academic Support Services Manager or Director of the Speaking and Writing Center.
Required Qualifications: Applicants should be friendly and able to engage with clients as well as other visitors to HCC 429, possess strong oral communication skills, and have good organizational and time management skills. Applicants should have a minimum 2.0 GPA.
Hiring Process: Hiring for aides generally takes place in the spring for those beginning work in the fall semester. Applications generally open about a week and a half before Spring Break. Occassionally, we do accept applications in the fall for spring employees depending on need.
After a review of applications, qualified candidates will be invited to interiew. All candidates will be notified about their final hiring status.
