But, reflection is a writing genre which students have likely had little exposure to and it can be difficult to teach\/coach them to write a strong, meaningful one. These grants support &lsquo;small teaching&rsquo; steps towards purposeful, sustainable teaching and learning design. Be creative and think about how you can take learning to a new level! Grants may also support Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) projects conducted in your classroom.<\/p><h4><strong>How much funding do Summer Small Teaching Grants provide?<\/strong><\/h4><p>The Center for Teaching awards $1000 grants each summer.<\/p><h4><strong>How can Summer Small Teaching Grant funds be spent?<\/strong><\/h4><p>Summer Small Teaching Grant funds may support material\/resource purchases (e.g. books, teaching materials, equipment, transcription services, etc.) or a stipend for the faculty member (note: stipends are taxed). If a faculty team submits a grant application and elects to receive stipends, the funds will be split among the team members.<\/p><p>Summer Small Teaching Grant funds may not be used for student salaries or stipends, food\/catering purchases, or travel expenses.<\/p><h4><strong>What is the application review process?<\/strong><\/h4><p>Calls for Summer Small Teaching Grant applications go out in March via all-faculty email. Center for Teaching staff review the applications and notify applicants of their grant status by the first week of May.<\/p><p>Preference will be given to applicants who have not been awarded a Summer Small Teaching Grant within the past two years.<\/p><h4><strong>Are there any conditions for receiving a Summer Small Teaching Grant?<\/strong><\/h4><p>Summer Small Teaching Grant recipients are asked to share their experiences with the larger university community. Center for Teaching staff will work with grant recipients to determine an appropriate forum for their work. Participants provide a 20-minute presentation of their research or teaching strategy, then engage in a 30-minute discussion and feedback session with the audience. We especially encourage presentation of &lsquo;in process&rsquo; research and projects and work in partnership with students.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-are-faculty-pedagogy-colloquium-held\">When are Faculty Pedagogy Colloquium held?<\/h3><p>Monthly meetings are scheduled each semester &nbsp;(September-November and February-April). Mid-day meetings allow us to informally gather over lunch before the presentations.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-do-i-present-at-the-faculty-pedagogy-colloquium\">How do I present at the Faculty Pedagogy Colloquium?<\/h3><p>Formal calls for colloquium topics go out to all faculty in August and January.
