{"id":53751,"date":"2014-10-21T14:09:29","date_gmt":"2014-10-21T14:09:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/academics.umw.edu\/registrar\/?page_id=53751"},"modified":"2026-02-10T15:21:41","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T20:21:41","slug":"credit-by-examination","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/academics.umw.edu\/registrar\/ferpa-policies-procedures-services\/credit-by-examination\/","title":{"rendered":"Credit-by-Examination"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-umw-hero alignfull umw-custom-block umw-hero umw-hero--dark-text umw-hero--media-float-right umw-hero--white umw-hero--with-no-media\"><div class=\"umw-hero__inner\"><div class=\"umw-hero__media\"><\/div><div class=\"umw-hero__title\"><div class=\"container\"><div class=\"umw-hero__title__wrapper\"><div class=\"umw-hero__eyebrow\">registrar&#8217;s office<\/div><h1 class=\"umw-hero__title__header\">Credit-by-Examination<\/h1><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-umw-hero-ctas alignfull\"><div class=\"umw-hero__links\"><div class=\"container\"><div class=\"umw-hero__links__wrapper\">\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-credit-by-examination\">Credit-by-Examination<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An enrolled, degree-seeking student may request, from a department, a special examination in any course offered by that department.\u00a0The department will determine if an examination is appropriate in the requested course.\u00a0If the student passes the examination, the course and a grade of CR will be recorded on the permanent record to indicate credits earned.\u00a0Quality points, however, will not be awarded.\u00a0If a student fails the examination, a grade of CI will be recorded.\u00a0Should the latter occur, the student <em><strong>must<\/strong> <\/em>enroll in the course in the next semester in which the course is offered.\u00a0The student&#8217;s earned grade, with attendant quality points, will replace the grade of CI.\u00a0Should the student not so enroll, the CI will be converted to a grade of F.\u00a0There is a charge for each examination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Credits earned through credit-by-examination may count toward Major Program requirements, General Education requirements, or can be scored as elective credits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Credit-by-examination is not available for seminar, individual study, studio, or laboratory courses.\u00a0Credit-by-examination is not available for any course in which the student has been enrolled or has been in attendance.\u00a0Also, credit-by-examination is available <em><strong>only<\/strong> <\/em>for courses normally taught at the University of Mary Washington; it is not available or appropriate for any course not listed in the current academic Catalog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/academics.umw.edu\/registrar\/files\/2014\/10\/Request-for-Credit-by-Exam10-14.pdf\">Request for Credit-by-Exam Form<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Credit-by-Examination An enrolled, degree-seeking student may request, from a department, a special examination in any course offered by that department.\u00a0The department will determine if an examination is appropriate in the requested course.\u00a0If the student passes the examination, the course and a grade of CR will be recorded on the permanent record to indicate credits earned.\u00a0Quality [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5371,"featured_media":0,"parent":5330,"menu_order":4,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"umw_cb_additional_links":[[]],"_advisory_expires_time":"","_advisory_meta_include":false,"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"class_list":{"0":"post-53751","1":"page","2":"type-page","3":"status-publish","5":"entry"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.1 (Yoast SEO v27.1.1) -
