Honors Program Application for Current UMW Students (Track B) Honors Application Track B The Honors Program at UMW is a unique interdisciplinary learning opportunity for students. Students will be enrolled in challenging learning experiences but will also be part of a community of people who strive to grow intellectually, personally, and ethically. Admissions to the UMW Honors Program Track B is highly competitive. The Honors Program Faculty Committee holistically reviews the applications, looking for individuals who will engage with the Honors Program community and excel as scholars, citizens, and leaders. The committee will review each application considering the applicant’s rigor of coursework, performance in those courses, letter of recommendation, quality of extracurricular activities, and essay. The Honors Program Faculty Committee will review applications in February and final decisions will be announced no later than March 1st. Please provide a word count at the end. 1) This year professional athletes have used their clothing to make social statements—for instance, wearing slogans of the Black Lives Matter movement or lace collars to honor Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. If you could design one such piece of attire for athletes to wear, what would it be and what message would it be intended to communicate? 2) If you were given the opportunity to add one more requirement to UMW’s general education plan that targeted a skill or knowledge area you think is crucial for our students and future citizens, what would it be? Explain why you chose it or what you’d want it to accomplish.Letter of Recommendation*Each applicant must arrange to have at least one letter of recommendation from a UMW faculty member; if you've had an Honors-designated course, the teacher for that course would be a strong choice.
