Student Leadership in Civic Engagement<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Supporting UMW Students as they Begin a Life of Engaged Citizenship<\/strong>

The Voting Ambassadors <\/strong>are part of the UMW Votes<\/strong> program<\/a>. The Voting Ambassadors<\/strong> are interns at the Center for Community Engagement<\/strong> who support members of our UMW community as they develop the skills, habits, and knowledge needed for a life of engaged citizenship. The internships are a great way to develop leadership skills in civic engagement, and can provide up to three academic credits. Fill out this form<\/a> to submit your application to the UMW Voting Ambassador program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UMW Center for Community Engagement is seeking to fill 2-3 volunteer and internship positions for Voting Ambassadors for fall semester 2026. You can volunteer for service hours, academic credit, or simply as an internship. Interns will learn more about civic engagement in Virginia, project management, marketing, and voting on the UMW campus. Students will be expected to work between 3-10 hours per week. We will be partnering with Virginia21 for some of our work in the fall of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fellowship Opportunities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Students who serve as Voting Ambassadors have an opportunity to apply for several different paid and unpaid fellowships with national and local organizations, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Campus Vote Project<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Virginia21<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Voting Ambassador Responsibilities<\/h3>\n\n\n

    \"National<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

    1. Voter registration:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    a. Interns will learn how to register new and existing UMW students to vote on campus, at home, or absentee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    b. Interns will receive education to make sure they are aware of local and other voter registration requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    c. Interns will table throughout the months of September and October to increase voter registration among UMW students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    d. Interns will serve as resources for any students that are interested in registering to vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    2. Voter education:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    \n

    a. Interns will produce educational materials related to both local and absentee voting (directions to polling places, maps, deadlines related to absentee and local voting, etc.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    b. Interns will table and provide educational materials throughout student orientation and the months of September and October to educate voters regarding voting options and the value of registering to vote.<\/p>\n<\/div>

    c. Interns will build relationships among campus student groups regarding civic engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    3. Voter mobilization

    a. Interns will learn to use social media to inform and educate student voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    b. Interns will implement a communications campaign using campus media\/communications platforms the month leading up to Election Day reminding students about the importance of civic engagement and voting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
