Socially-Distant, Outdoor and In-Person Opportunities
There are several outdoor or in-person volunteer opportunities that allow for social distancing. Masks are still required to be worn when close to others.
Friends of the Rappahanock (FOR)/Downtown & River Cleanups:
FOR has created a webpage where you can explore River Cleanup opportunities and schedule your own river clean up with your family or friend group. Visit the webpage to learn more about where river cleanups are needed, how to conduct a cleanup, and how to report the amount trash you were able to pick up!
Downtown Greens:
Downtown Greens has open volunteer hours every Thursday from 3:00pm–6:00pm and Saturday from 9:00am–12:00pm. If you are interested in walking with UMW students on a Saturday to help volunteer, visit myUMW. The urban garden space is located at the corner of Dixon and Charles streets, and is walking distance from campus (about 15 min walk). If you are driving, you may wish to park on Princess Anne St. If you sign up to volunteer, please bring a mask.
Food Bank:
The Fredericksburg Food Bank is providing socially-distanced in-person volunteering opportunities. Visit their webpage to explore your options and sign up. You must provide your own transportation to the volunteer site.
