Welcome back! As you start working on your fall schedule and course syllabi, I wanted to let you know about some of what the Speaking Intensive Program (http://academics.umw.edu/speaking/) has to offer for the coming year:

SI Faculty Lunch Workshops: In addition to the summer faculty workshop, the SI program will again host a series of luncheon workshops. Look for announcements for upcoming events- the full schedule will be kept on the SI website. If you have any suggested topics for future workshops, please let me know.

New SI Course Proposal Deadlines: Interested in having your course designated as Speaking Intensive? Your students are, and we are happy to help. New proposal forms are linked below.

Spring 2013 courses: proposals should be received by September 17, 2012

Summer 2013 courses: proposals should be received by November 5, 2012

Fall term 2013 courses: proposals should be received by January 14, 2013.

See the attached proposal forms for specifics, and feel free to contact me, or anyone on the SI Committee, for assistance in preparing your proposal.

The Speaking Center : Dr. Esther Yook, Speaking Center Director, and the Speaking Center consultants are available to help you with your SI course assignments. Contact the Speaking Center at x1347, or go to the Center’s website at http://academics.umw.edu/speaking/speaking-center/ . The Speaking Center will again host a series of afternoon workshops for students (and faculty) this fall- look for announcements in September.

New Speaking Intensive Course Proposals

If you are interested in having your course designated as Speaking Intensive, submit one of the forms linked below to the Speaking Intensive Committee (send the completed form, and related documents, via e-mail to Anand Rao – arao@umw.edu).

For a new SI course, or to add an instructor to an existing SI course: SI course proposal form

For an all-instructor designation for an existing SI course (if a new course, also submit the SI course proposal form found above): SI all instructors proposal form

To have an individual study or internship you are directing designated as SI: SI indiv study proposal form
