Requirements for the Communication and Digital Studies Major

The major includes thirty-six credits in communication and digital studies courses as follows:

1) Communication Core (15 credits)

  • Two of: COMM 205: Public Speaking, COMM 206: Small Group Communication, COMM 209: Argumentation
  • COMM 340: Introduction to Rhetoric & Communication (formerly COMM 350)
  • COMM 341: Communication Research Methods
  • either COMM 460: Seminar in Digital Rhetorics or COMM 491: Individual Study

2) Digital Studies Core (9 credits)

  • DGST 101: Introduction to Digital Studies
  • one of:
    • ARTS 104: Digital Approaches to Fine Art
    • CPSC 106: Digital Storytelling
    • CPSC 110: Introduction to Computer Science
  • DGST 395: Applied Digital Studies

3) Electives (12 credits)

Four of the following, with at least two at the 300- or 400-level:
