The University gives special admissions consideration to students completing the Associate degree program from one of Virginia’s two-year public institutions. Any student earning an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or an Associate of Arts & Science in any major except General Studies will have completed most of the General Education requirements. We do accept General Studies majors from the following list of VCC schools.

Students transferring in with an awarded Associates Degree are guaranteed junior standing (60 credits). Associates Degree must be earned before matriculating at UMW.
Advantages of completing an Associate Degree at Richard Bland College
Students transferring in with an awarded Associates of Arts or Associates of Sciences Degree are guaranteed junior standing (a maximum of 63 credits transferred). The Associates Degree must be earned before matriculating at UMW. Students with AA or AS degrees from Richard Bland are only required to complete the language, experiential learning and the intensives (speaking and writing) portions of the General Education requirements.
