For Study Abroad Providers and International Universities

The University of Mary Washington (UMW) welcomes Study Abroad Providers and International Universities to visit our campus to recruit students for study abroad programs.

UMW recognizes it cannot provide the variety of programs needed for all students’ academic, linguistic and cultural needs. Outside providers and universities abroad offer valuable learning alternatives to UMW’s Faculty-Led program (during summer, winter & spring break) or UMW’s summer, semester, or year-long Partner Programs. When outside providers visit UMW they are helping UMW promote internationalization and extend the reach of the Center for International Education (CIE). The best way to reach UMW students is to attend the Fall Study Abroad Fair. If you would like an invitation to host a table at the fair, please contact CIE directly. An annual fee to participate in the fair covers a table and lunch during the fair, as well as an open invitation to reserve a table on campus for one academic year (prior notice required).

If you are unable to join us for the fair, outside providers and universities are encouraged to host a table at a popular venue on campus (such as Eagle’s Nest in Woodard Campus Center or the Dome room in the Seacobeck Dining Hall). If you are interested in a campus visit during the academic year, click here for the UMW CIE Campus Visit Agreement.

Affiliation Policy

While UMW welcomes campus visits by all providers who offer safe and academically sound programs, UMW has affiliation agreements with certain providers. In order to be considered an “Affiliated Program,” an outside provider, at a minimum, must:

  • Offer safe, strong academic and affordable programs;
  • Provide an immediate discount/scholarship to all UMW students;
  • Attend the Study Abroad Fair; and
  • Visit campus at least one additional time in that academic year to recruit students.

These points must be stipulated in the provider/UMW affiliation agreement that is generated by the Study Abroad Provider.

CIE vets the academic quality of affiliated programs through its academic departments and faculty. Providers who meet the minimum requirements will be listed on the CIE website as Affiliated ProgramsNOTE: CIE is not accepting new affiliation agreements at this time.

All discounts created through affiliation agreements will immediately be credited to the student’s account with the provider. UMW does not accept payments from providers for student discounts.

Students will make all payments directly to the provider and UMW will only collect fees on behalf of providers if the student will receive a larger discount by UMW collecting the fees.
