Faculty Academy 2012 Dates & Speakers

Dr. David Darts, NYU's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development

We’re very excited to officially announce the dates and speaker lineup for this year’s Faculty Academy on Teaching & Learning Technologies.

The conference will be held on May 16 & 17 in Monroe Hall. Events will run from around 9:00a.m. until 5:00p.m each day. Please note that this is a new venue for Faculty Academy!

Conference registration is now open, and our online call for proposals is also available. We encourage you to join us for two days of exploration and conversation. In particular, if you have a project, course, or idea to share, we hope you will submit a proposal!

I’m pleased to also announce that we have our keynote speaker and guest presenters’ lined up for the conference.

Dr. David Darts, chair of the department of art and art professions at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, will be delivering a plenary keynote on Thursday, May 17 (time TBD).  Dr. Darts’ research focuses on the convergence between contemporary art and media, technology, education, and democracy. He is particularly known for developing the “PirateBox,” a self-contained and mobile digital collaboration and file sharing system.

The title of his talk is “When I Hear the Word Culture, I Reach for My Source Code: The Struggle for Freedom and Control in the Digital Age.”

In addition, we will be joined by two guest presenters:

  • Grant Potter,  e-Learning Coordinator at the University of Northern British Columbia
  • Guilia Forsythe, Special Projects Coordinator for Teaching, Learning, and Educational Technologies at Brock University

Details about both of our guest presenters’ plenary lectures are forthcoming.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be continuing to solidify the conference program, and we will be sharing additional information about conference offerings.

We very much hope to see you on May 16 & 17 in Monroe Hall!
