On-Campus Recruiting

Recruiting on campus provides the opportunity for various organizations to interview graduating students on campus for full-time jobs after graduation. Occasionally, graduate schools will also arrange recruiting dates to meet with students individually or in small groups to discuss their programs of study. Recruiting generally takes place in October, November, January, February, March and April. On-campus recruiting is a convenient method for interviewing. Not all companies or organizations will interview on campus, so you need to use various methods in your search for employment. We offer workshops and individual appointments to help you develop job search techniques.

In order to handle the logistics of the on-campus recruiting program and to be as fair as possible to all students, the following policies and procedures have been developed:

  • You must be a University of Mary Washington student completing your degree requirements in December, May, or August of the current academic year; or you must be completing the Teacher Licensure Program. Alumni may also participate if the organization is interested in interviewing alumni.
  • You must register on-line through Employ·An·Eagle.

For the most part, sign-ups for interviews will be on a first come, first served basis. Sign-up will take place through Employ·An·Eagle and the schedule will open for sign-ups approximately three weeks prior to the interview. You must submit a resume for each organization of interest to you. Employ·An·Eagle requires an on-line resume be submitted in order to sign up for an interview slot.

For those organizations which choose to pre-screen (review resumes and then select students for their on-campus interview schedules), you will need to submit your resume from three to five weeks before the recruiting date. Check the recruiting schedule or information posted on Employ·An·Eagle for deadlines to submit your resume. Check your Employ·An·Eagle account under “My Applications” to see if you have been selected for an interview.

Employ·An·Eagle also includes job listings for companies not recruiting on-campus. Check the web site frequently for new position listings.

Please sign up only for interviews which are of interest to you. If you want to practice interviewing, mock interviews are available as are Interviewing Skills Workshops and Interview Stream. Recruiters don’t appreciate students using  interviews for practice because they want to spend their time with students who are seriously interested in their organization.

Be sure to review the organization’s literature before your interview. The organization’s web site usually has that information.

NO SHOW POLICY

If you must cancel an interview, you need to do so 48 hours in advance. If you are sick the morning of your interview, call the Office of Career Services, at 540/654-1022 before 8:30 a.m. If you do not cancel and do not show for your interview, you must write a letter of apology to the recruiter. You will receive a letter from Career Services giving you a deadline to submit the letter of apology. If the copy of the letter is not submitted to the Office of Career Services by the deadline, you will automatically be removed from further interview schedules, and you will not be able to sign up for additional interviews.

In case of inclement weather, call Career Services at 540/654-1022 to verify interview schedules.

Due to space limitations, some interviews may not be held in Lee Hall. You must check in with the Office of Career Services 10 minutes before your interview. This allows enough time for us to direct you to where your interview will be held.
