Tutoring services are free when the request is made through Academic Services. All traditional tutorial sessions are held on Sundays and Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m beginning January 23 – April 17. To request a tutor for Sunday, you MUST sign up by 2 p.m. on Wednesday. To request a tutor for Wednesday, you MUST sign up by 2 p.m. on Friday. All students are notified about tutor availability by e-mail the day before their requested session. Any student who needs help but has a conflict with the scheduled tutorial times must contact the Office of Academic Services to see if a tutor is available at an alternate time. To request a tutor fill out the Tutor Request Form.
Alternate Time Procedures
To request a tutor at an alternate time tutees must appear in person at the Academic Services window (206.8) in the Student Services Center in Lee Hall and make a written request. The tutee must complete and sign an Alternate Time Request Form and fill out the online form. At the time of the tutoring session the tutor and tutee must record the time the session begins and the time it ends. Both the tutor and the tutee must sign the time sheet. An Alternate Time Request Form only needs to be filled out once.
Walk-in Tutoring for Math
No appointment is necessary for math walk-in tutoring. Math walk-in tutoring is available every Monday from 4 – 6 p.m. in Combs 002 and Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. in Combs 002 during times when school is in session beginning January 23 through April 17
Tutee Responsibilities:
- It is important that you show up on time for your tutoring session. Let us know if you will be late as tutors will be reassigned after 15 minutes. To cancel an appointment call Academic Services (x1010) before 4 p.m. After 4 p.m., contact your tutor directly. Please note that two or more unexcused absences may affect your ability to receive services.
- Be prepared! Bring paper, a pen or pencil, your notes, and textbook. Do homework and try to work the problems before meeting with the tutor. Tutors will help with areas of confusion but will not teach the material. If tutors find a tutee that is too unprepared, the tutors will refer the tutee to his/her professor. Remember to keep questions relevant to the subject area. For example, no biology questions in the chemistry sessions.
Students who wish to request a tutor MUST sign up online. Students must request a tutor each time tutoring is needed.
