The Academic Success Mini Course is a four session, non credit bearing course that focuses on useful strategies designed to develop or enhance the students’ academic study skills. The mini course will be facilitated by an academic advisor in a group setting where students will have the opportunity to share their successful study habits and learn from their peers. These sessions are workshop formatted that will consist of group discussions and activities designed to strengthen students’ academic skills. Topics to be covered include useful study skills such as time management strategies, understanding syllabi, goal setting, test-taking and note-taking. First and second year students are encouraged to sign-up.
Dr. Larochelle, Associate Professor of Spanish and Faculty Fellow in Academic Services, will be facilitating three sections of the Academic Success Mini Course for students on probation and/or returning from suspension. Students will set goals for the semester and discuss concrete ways of implementing them in a supportive group setting. Students will commit to attending all four sessions in their section and will meet individually with Dr. Larochelle twice over the course of the semester for individualized appointments. Participation is limited to 20 students per section.
SECTION ONE- Thursdays at 5pm in HCC Conference Room 310: Jan. 26, Feb. 9, Feb. 23, and March 16.
SECTION TWO – Wednesdays at 4pm in HCC Conference Room 310: Feb. 1, Feb. 15, March 1, and March 15.
SECTION THREE – Wednesdays after Midterms at 4pm in HCC Conference Room 310: March 22, March 29, April 5 and April 12.
