FERPA Information

All Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) information can be found here.

For quick information about Reports on Advising (notes), see below:

  • A student has the right to review any or all of his/her education record upon request
  • A Report on Advising (note) is part of the student’s official academic record and subject to FERPA unless the reports/notes fall into the category of ‘sole possession.’ Sole possession are records kept in a file for the advisor’s own use as reference or memory aid and normally not shared with others
  • Reports on Advising (notes) need to be factual, objective, and must avoid making value judgements or inappropriate language.
