The Office of Academic and Career Services thanks you for completing the recent Alumni Survey. Many of you indicated that you would like to serve as a mentor to students or participate in career conversations. The hub for these activities is through a LinkedIn group called Eagle Connections, UMW.
Be a Mentor – Alumni and friends of the University can become Eagle Mentors in order to provide career related information to UMW students. Please consider joining the Eagle Connections, UMW group. Students join this group if they are seeking career advice, looking for internship, externship, job or informational interviewing opportunities, are researching certain regions or industries, or are searching for information about graduate school programs. You can decide who and how many UMW students you would like to mentor and you can choose your communication method (email, phone or in-person).
Other Ways To Be Involved
We welcome the involvement of alumni in assisting current UMW students with their career planning process. In fact, we depend on an active group of alumni to provide “real world” contacts for our students. Even if you live far away or don’t have much time, we have programs you can participate in.
- Provide an informational interview to a student
- Participate in the Externship Program
- List internship and full-time positions for UMW students
- Participate in a variety of networking events
Internship Program – You may have taken advantage of this program when you were a student. We can list internships free of charge on our web site and allow you to search candidate resumes via the same site.
Full-Time Positions – Of course you know what great employees UMW graduates make, so if you or your company have full-time positions to fill, why not post the position with us? Similar to listing an internship, and also free of charge, visit the ‘Posting a Job’ section of our website or call 540-654-1022 for more information.
Networking Events – Our office partners with the Office of Alumni Relations to provide opportunities for students to network with alumni. Keep an eye on our calendar for these events.
