Apply To Be a Tutor

Peer tutors serve as a resource to undergraduate UMW students. Most tutors work on a weekly to bi-weekly basis depending on the needs of their tutees. Tutors will also complete the specified number of trainings needed to gain certification per semester.

 How to Apply to Be a Tutor:

  • Sign up for Employ-An-Eagle (If you don’t already have an account)
  • Go to the jobs tab and type in the keyword: Tutor (position id 1523)
  • Follow the link in the job description to complete the application
  • Submit a copy of the Faculty Recommendation Form for each class you wish to tutor to Academic and Career Services
  • Submit a copy of your resume to tutorsvs@umw.edu

SALARY LEVEL

$7.80-$10.00 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS

To be a tutor you must:
Be a current degree seeking UMW student
Have at least a 2.75 GPA (3.0 preferred)
Have previously received at least a B in the course you wish to tutor
Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Have a sincere desire to help and have a high degree of patience
Be willing to work with diverse group of tutees

Native language speakers can apply to tutor to tutor their language, but fluency will be verified before the position is offered.
