Office of Academic and Career Services Mission
The Office of Academic and Career Services assists students with the development of holistic academic and career planning as undecided students and throughout their institutional tenure as academic and professional interests evolve are identified and honed. All students are supported through the delivery of first year and transfer advising from orientation to major declaration and across the arc of their academic career by providing individual counseling and mentoring, management of the academic internship program, academic tutoring, delivery of academic success workshops, resource identification, referrals, and student advocacy. We supplement the teaching/ learning mission of the University of Mary Washington through the delivery of holistic developmental advising that promotes academic and career counseling as mutually reinforcing activities that are shared responsibilities between faculty, staff and students. Experiential activities enhance, amplify, and reinforce academic pursuits and through our services we assist students with becoming responsible self-directed learners that are capable of developing educational and professional plans consistent with their personal values, goals and career objectives and that prepare them for a life-long learning in a diverse and global society.
